Exploring the lasting impacts of Stanislavski’s naturalistic acting styles of the 1920’s, this essay demonstrates how subtext can occur naturally in documentary, unlike in fiction. While the way most documentaries capture realism has changed over time, naturalistic acting on screen is still rooted in Stanislavskian theatre.
